‘Light Years Popsicle’ is a fitting title for a collaboration between Joker and Rustie, two producers whose musical personalities would perfectly assimilate into the retrofitted future of Blade Runner and/or other similar sci-fi scenarios. If Chris Tucker was here dressed as Ruby Rhod, he’d catapult this tune into the stratosphere. Or beyond into, you know, space.
Played by Plastician on his Rinse FM show a week ago, trance chords mingle with electric guitaresque synth in an epic lunar concoction evocative of hallucinatory images featuring an ’80s rockstar floating through the infinite galactic night. Or maybe that’s just me…listen below.
Recorded at Thekla in Bristol for the Foo Magazine versus Monkey!Knife!Fight! night a couple of weeks ago, ‘The History of Dubstep’ is Plastician’s masterfully compiled journey charting the genre’s evolution from its humble garage beginnings to the diverse landscape we know today. Featuring tunes by the likes of Wookie, Skream, Flux Pavilion, Artwork, DJ Zinc and Sukh Knight, there’s a huge amount of quality running through this mix and some equally good MCing from P-Money — the guy who destroyed Ghetts — augmenting proceedings. If there’s one thing you download today, don’t let it be another Anal Adventure flick…let it be this.
Plastician, or Plasticman as he’s become accustomed to call himself, just uploaded this Rinse mix he did a couple of weeks back. It’s primarily made up of all his old tunes, kind of a purge as he looks forward to new material in 2010, but does include some new shit including a preview of a fresh collaboration from TC & Joker and some deep Jakes dubs. You’ll instantly know the TC & Joker track when it drops and not just because Plastician talks over most of it. It’s soaked in Joker’s token synth sound like the rag I use to chloroform women in the park…and it’s absolutely immense.
If you’ve not been on the dubstep much recently, this will reignite the romance like a molotov cocktail to the crotch. It’s massive.
