The one from The xx with all the fingers in all the pies, you know Jamie, was In The Mix for Benji B on BBC Radio 1 last night. He did a damn good job too. The last time I heard Mount Kimbie mixed into a slow-dub-waltz version of ‘Touch Me’ by Rui de Silva was in my dreams. You made my dreams come true Jamie xx. Which wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Pinglewood too so cheers guys.
It’s a funny one this; meaning you’ll want to tell people about it not that it’s one Fruit & Nut bar short of a tasty selection box. Gotta love a bit of Harmonic 313 cavorting with Lumidee. Remember those pies I mentioned before? Well he’s also set about remixing Gil Scott-Heron’s 2010 album I’m New Here, which will be released on Feb 21 UK/ 22 US and will suitably be named We’re New Here. This one goes out to the heads of the executed criminals displayed along London Bridge during the 16th Century. Tracklist for the mix after the jump.

Christmas is over, you’ve listed all your crappy presents on eBay and your little sister has already pushed in the tweeter on your prized new speakers. Reso, however, is still feeling generous and is giving away a free 3 track EP and mix in order to get you to visit his shiny new website. ‘Beasts in the Basement VIP’, ‘Abyss’ and ‘Identity’ make up the EP and it’s rather good considering it runs through the till at £0.00. The mix is pretty interesting too, although it seems to have been around for a while. Still, when it’s free you can’t exactly complain. In fact, I think it’s high-time you smiled you miserable bastard. It’s 2011 and until next week I’m going to keep mentioning the fact that it’s a new year. You should be turning your life around, reaching for the stars and skanking down the street with a new-found optimism…new year’s RESOlution anyone?
Pointless life commentary aside, download the EP using the widget below and head over that new Reso site (see above) for the mix. After all, that’s what this is all about right? Getting people to click click click. Sign on the dotted line Pedro, you’re going away for a long time. I shouldn’t write posts when I’m tired.
It’s 2011, the year you’re finally going to get a job, move out of your parents’ house and just generally get your act together. Of course, you’ll start doing all that in a few weeks, first it’s time to listen to a bit of muzak and get down to the local for a few swifties. Lucky for you, influential duo Elijah and Skilliam are here to help and have assembled a new year mix brimming with a tasty selection of grime tunes from the freshest producers the scene has to offer. Admittedly, a mix comprised solely of grime isn’t something I’d usually tackle but this is surprisingly sick and I listened to the entire thing, twice. It’s not all multiple claps and overused strings and I bet you a whole bag of quavers that Royal T’s remix of ‘It’s Wiley’ will have you bobbing up and down like a rubber duck in a fat man’s bath. Happy new year!
Download/listen below, tracklist after the jump. You know the deal.
If, for whatever reason, you’re getting ever so slightly bored with general minimal house/tech releases of late then listen to this absolutely gorgeous mix. I’m not getting bored as such, I just seem to spend most of my time either wandering about aimlessly or being stuck with my head in the bloody sand. Just taking a different perspective you know. It’s how I came to the conclusion that fascists hate ambient music.
Point is, if you haven’t guessed, this mix is refreshing. Like watermelon. Apart from there’s no seeds. Only deep, bouncy minimal tech house goodness. It’s been put together by Sebastian Mullaert of Minilogue fame and nestled in there are also two brand new Minilogue tracks. Stand out track for me has to be ‘Trust the Drum’ though because this woman shouts ‘Africa!’ and then it drops and then it’s amazing.
In all honestly, nobody explains the LP better than kompakt.fm when they say ”this mix cd is live mix without computer. The seemless computer mix is sometimes good for home listening but live mix definitely have more soul and emotion. CD1 kicks off by Sebastian’s own track and he mixed his favorite psychedelic ambient house like new release of Donato Dozzy on Mule or his friend “Kab” and “The Mole”. CD2 is faster and bit pumping and clubby sounding like a Minilogue’s dance track”.
Turns out you that’s the best place to buy it too. Apart from your local record store. Represent. Check the mad player widget gizmo after the drop…
ASC is definitely one of the most interesting dubstep/electronica producers currently inhabiting our glorious planet, his recent LP Nothing is Certain was a tranquil triumph and everything he creates seems to be more delicate and exquisite than what came before. He’s also a pretty prolific DJ and every now and again drops an intriguing ambient mix on his blog. The suitably titled ‘Deep Space Mix 15′ is essentially a 50 minute atmospheric soundscape that submerges you in aural depths as chasmic as infinite…well…space. Beautifully relaxed yet languidly interesting, this is one to slide on when you really need to take a step back and collect yourself.
For some people chiptunes are the aural equivalent of being chainsawed in half, they just can’t handle the awesome lo-bit vibes. For others — myself included — they’re sick. I was brought up on the sound of my Gameboy and Megadrive beeping out dope little tunes and listening to chip music is as exhilarating as listening to the soundtrack from Street Fighter, Toejam and Earl or James Pond II: Codename Robocod (classic). This mix by Henry Homesweet is a comprehensive collection of some of the sickest modern chip available and it’s pure madness. Get your head out of the yoghurt pot and bang it against your Amiga instead!
