Mirrors House Mix

Mirrors

The latest installment in our sporadic yet always satisfying mix series comes courtesy of a producer I’ve been posting a fair bit about recently. Hailing from Glasgow, Mirrors is a high-calibre architect of the house and garage variety, although recently exhibited his polymathic talents by dropping a stellar hip-hop release in the form of Superior EP.

Clocking in at just under 40 minutes, the mix itself is a compelling exploration of new house music with throwback elements. Featuring tunes from the likes of Synkro, Boddika & Joy Orbison, Mosca, Jack Dixon and Mirrors himself, the track that really stands out is Ce Ce Penniston’s dance classic ‘Finally’. Honestly, including that was a master stroke. I first listened to the whole thing in my car and if anybody had been watching me when that came on, they would have seen me transform into a ’90s backing dancer trying to steal a little bit of limelight. It made me genuinely wonder if I was born into the wrong generation…

Rustie’s Radio 1 Essential Mix

Rustie

Everyone’s favourite Glaswegian producer Rustie was this week’s Radio 1 essential mixer and last night at 1am, he dropped to hours of incredible tunes. Featuring new tracks from Dorian Concept, Hudson Mohawke, Surkin and Rustie himself, this one is big. Almost as big as my nose…oh God I’m hideous!

Have a listen over at the Radio 1 site or download from Mediafire. Tracklist after the jump.

Socket Science – Elegant Decay Mix

Socket Science - Elegant Decay

Me and Oldsy have been discussing the possibility of an exclusive Box Musique mix series since the beginning of time. Seriously, we sat there on the council with Zerb, Vultar and the Great Creator and theorised spicing up the annual Gods meet with a bit of funky music, but just never got round to it. Well, the time has finally come and I am now proud to present the first installment in our long-awaited series, compiled (like a boss) by Astor Bell head honcho Socket Science. Dubbed the Elegant Decay Mix, it comprises just over an hour of minimal goodness that, right from the slightly unsettling vocal snippets of the introduction, will have you glued to it like you were actually glued to something. From the euphoric landscapes of Max Cooper’s ‘Heresy’ through the quirky bounce of Klatraum’s ‘Lenny’ to the melancholic vibes of Ryan Davis and Transistor’s ‘Nature is The Law’ and the genius of Pig & Dan’s ‘Haai Jack’ remix, Elegant Decay is an orgy of lush, rhythmic indulgence that you should download immediately. If you don’t I’ll tell Vultar and you know what he’ll do, I mean, look what he did to Betamax and Enron. Exactly.

To check out more Socket Science, and offerings from the rest of the Astor Bell crowd head over to their official site and be patient, for new releases are on the horizon. Also, keep your eyes open for Socket’s upcoming collaboration with Giuseppe which should surface in the next couple of months and will certainly appear here at some point.

Listen to mix via Mixcloud below or download it here. The tracklist lies after the jump.

xxxy Triangle Mix

xxxy

In order to attract the bass music masses to their Facebook page — which includes you mr/mrs/master/ms/miss reader — London night Triangle is offering up a download of an hour long mix from Manchester’s xxxy. There’s no tracklist provided so you’ll have to head into the affair blind, armed only with my assurance that it’s a rather delightful listen. Of course, I have steered you wrong before, remember that time I told you to go through a door because I had “accidentally” forgotten I’d left a bucket of flour above it? OOPS [insert laugh track].

To get it, just “like” the Triangle Facebook page and click the “xxxy DJ Set Free Download” link in the left-hand column. I suppose you could have figured that one out yourself really…

Buy xxxy tunes at iTunes.

Versa & Rowl Mix

Compiled exclusively for Dubstep For Deep Heads by Milton Keynes chill merchants Versa and Rowl, this one is loaded with profound bass, lush synths, and generally soft vibes, interrupted only by the occasional surfacing of a raspy bassline. It’s also an hour and a half long. Yeah, like half an hour more than a hour. It’s rather pleasant. I mean…er…it’s safe mate, an absolute beast, proper nang.

Listen below, tracklist after the jump.

Apparat Mix

Not really sure if that header there is working for me right now. Got some sort of lonely Jesus looking down on my post, judging my every move. God, just leave me alone! So Apparat has turned in a sterling mix for Groove magazine, probably to semi-promote his new album The Devil’s Walk. But if he’s only going to ‘semi-promote’ his latest long player and not fully commit to blatant promotional whoring then I’m afraid I can’t justify banging on about the mix and/or the album. Everyone’s a winner. Tracklist after the jump…
