This is not the next Minilogue album. But it’s still good news. You could even say it is… music to my ears. Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson of Minilogue fame invited Koss to jam with them in Sweden and this forthcoming LP is the result. Apparently it runs for 2.5 hours and one track is over an hour long. If you can’t handle that, then get out of the kitchen. If you can then here be a mix to get you all hyped up like Tyson when he sees earlobes. However, If you carry on waltzing about thinking you can handle anything life throws at you, someone is going to have to take you down a peg or two and I really hope it isn’t me. Because my kidneys hurt for some reason and I’m tired.

Mule Electronic will release The Möllan Sessions on October 24th

If, for whatever reason, you’re getting ever so slightly bored with general minimal house/tech releases of late then listen to this absolutely gorgeous mix. I’m not getting bored as such, I just seem to spend most of my time either wandering about aimlessly or being stuck with my head in the bloody sand. Just taking a different perspective you know. It’s how I came to the conclusion that fascists hate ambient music.

Point is, if you haven’t guessed, this mix is refreshing. Like watermelon. Apart from there’s no seeds. Only deep, bouncy minimal tech house goodness. It’s been put together by Sebastian Mullaert of Minilogue fame and nestled in there are also two brand new Minilogue tracks. Stand out track for me has to be ‘Trust the Drum’ though because this woman shouts ‘Africa!’ and then it drops and then it’s amazing.

In all honestly, nobody explains the LP better than kompakt.fm when they say ”this mix cd is live mix without computer. The seemless computer mix is sometimes good for home listening but live mix definitely have more soul and emotion. CD1 kicks off by Sebastian’s own track and he mixed his favorite psychedelic ambient house like new release of Donato Dozzy on Mule or his friend “Kab” and “The Mole”. CD2 is faster and bit pumping and clubby sounding like a Minilogue’s dance track”.

Turns out you that’s the best place to buy it too. Apart from your local record store. Represent. Check the mad player widget gizmo after the drop…

Just for the record, I’m not a facist. But I do like ambient music. And debate rages as to whether this album should be known as WaWuWe or Wa Wu We. Who knows/cares.

The genius of Minilogue lies in their ability to formulate organic yet paradoxically regulated minimal, aligning vast swathes of atmosphere, hooky rhythmic sweetness and eccentric nuance to heart-achingly sublime effect. Their music is a beautiful canvas upon which many producers would love to scrawl and last week saw the release of Remixed, Traum Schallplatten’s 3 track EP comprising reinterpretations of some (well…a couple of) Minilogue classics.

Dominik Eulberg and Freska have both applied their talents to aspects of Certain Things, Minilogue’s first release on Traum way back in 2005. Eulberg’s instalment is melodic and haunting, spectrally drifting through an array of textures, melodies and intricate percussion, adding countless layers of depth and a glitchy, crushed charm. Freska’s effort takes a different turn however and buoys its source material to a jauntier and more optimistic plateau. The bassline and wonky vocals drive it like a sand buggy through a crowded town centre and the beat shines through, unashamedly waving itself in your face.

Dividing the two Certain Things tunes is Max Cooper, the man behind dancefloor banger ‘Wasp’. His effort expertly injects the anodyne beauty of ‘Seconds (Colour & Sound)’ with a dose of energy and movement, arousing the original’s hidden anthemic potential to produce the sure highlight. Relaxed yet uplifting, it conjures images of a stuporous night time stagger in a deserted big city district and the rise and fall of the relentless note towards the end lends it an epic quality that really tips it into the “something special” pile. I think it’s an incredibly beautiful track and were I not such a strong, masculine man, I’d probably get a little wet around the eye area right about now…

Short but sweet, this is a brilliant release which will surely placate all the heads patiently awaiting new Minilogue material. I would urge you to spend whatever you’ve earned in the brothel on this and turn it up really loud. As a wise yet possibly morally corrupt huge corporate entity once said: just do it!

I like Minilogue, I like Extrawelt and I also think Leopards are pretty fucking cool. Basically, this track has all the components it needs to leapfrog the other crap I rifle through and firmly position itself at the forefront of my existence. I guess the fact that it’s an amazing tune also helps…although not as much as the leopard thing, they sit in trees a lot and sometimes they eat monkeys. Monkeys are basically stupid people with cute faces.

Anyway, spacious and impelling, the distinctive clarity of Extrawelt’s percussion enhances Minilogue’s ambient leanings, giving birth to the reason I think minimal is sick. This song is better than the time I found a bucket and spade in Cornwall and spent the day building sandcastles with my childhood friend Elijah, who definitely exists because I have lots of friends…honestly…loads…

I have no idea how old this is, chances are it’s pretty ancient but it’s still worthy of a post. Listennnn!

Where am I? What’s my name? Who are you? Sorry it took me so long, it’s not easy getting all the way across from France with only 17 Euro cents and one of those tiny biscuits you get with a coffee. Someone then actually had the cheek to enlighten me that the internet exists in France.

Long story short, I’m a confused little soul who is mentally stuck in a No Man’s Land between the ages of 8 and 48 and the languages of French and English respectively. As much as I hate their beady little doom-filled eyes and dastardly looking beaks, sometimes I get quite jealous of birds.

As far as music goes, I must admit I’ve pretty much been surviving on the usual BM champion Minilogue alongside the stone-cold classic Endtroducing… combination. Plus whatever shiny new treasures I happen to stumble upon (Them Crooked Vultures for example). Let us crack on however, see what happens…

First up: Kid Cudi’s debut album. This really struck a chord (music journalism at its finest) with me a couple o’ months back; album on repeat etc. and the stronger tracks (Solo Dolo, Day ‘n’ Nite, Pursuit of Happiness) have remained as fresh as a newly de-tagged pair of socks. The guy is touring with Lady Gaga but don’t let that put you off though, it is thoroughly refreshing stuff. To prove absolutely nothing, here is a lovely interview.

Up next is Modeselektor’s ridiculous remix of Headhunter’s minimal dub sensation Prototype. They don’t call it the Broken Handbrake remix for nothing. My inability to link faulty car parts to music production does in no way detract from this track’s bouncy bouncy goodness. If you’ve been lucky enough to have your ear drums molested by this ‘joint’ in ‘da club’ then I take my hat off to you sir.

News doesn’t tend to get released at 2am on a Thursday morning, so I guess I’ll have to make my own.

Alongside my usual melange of dubstep, looped Minilogue and the occasional return to the metal days of old, I’ve really been getting into the folky/acoustic indie end of things. Bon Iver’s album For Emma, Forever Ago is one of the most heart-warming and inspirational records I’ve ever listened to and even though Justin Vernon looks like he should smell of leaves, his ability to communicate a sense of isolation and quivering intensity is nothing short of awesome. From the humble beginnings of ‘Flume’ to the whispering resolution of ‘Re: Stacks’, every track flows with its own sense of melancholic purpose. It gives me a cosy sense of security, as if I were holed up in a small wooden cabin with a roaring fire and no worries. Which is weird because when I looked the album up on Wikipedia, I found out it was all recorded in a log cabin in Wisconsin, a fact I found strangely satisfying. It also makes me want to grow a beard, which is something I can [sort of, and eventually will] do.

The Tallest Man on Earth’s Shallow Grave has a similar effect on me and despite its morbid name, is another majestic example of how music can swing your mood. Every time I listen to ‘Where Do My Bluebird Fly’ or ‘Honey Won’t You Let Me In’, I just want to go out and do things. And I’m not talking about going to the shops and buying some prawn mayo sandwiches — although that’s invariably what I start with — I mean something worthwhile. There’s people out there making music this amazing and all I’m doing is sitting in my boxers, eating doritos and chain-watching episodes of Entourage. Oh well, these twangy banjo vibes will placate for me now, but soon I’ll buy my own instruments and make something of myself. Or just write about it on the internet.

Most of you have probably heard these albums before and haven’t even read this far, you’re probably getting lost in ‘Blindsided’ right now. But, for those of you who haven’t hit this particular pathway before, you need to put your mittens on string and roll around in the aural equivalent of autumn leaves for a while. It will make you happy.
