It would be impossible for me to count the number of vacuously short video interviews of DJs and producers that I have seen over the last few years, but this one featuring Mount Kimbie is slightly different and thus deserves a firm push into your eyeballs. What makes it interesting is the fact that they — Berlin is Music — ask Kai and Dom separately how the other would respond to fairly standard questions, a strategy which provokes the light ribbing of both fellows. When I say “light ribbing”, I mean just…like, you know, poking fun. Oh forget it, just watch it.
If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. With that in mind… the new Guardian interview with James Blake is shit. There’s not really much more to be said about it, both parties come across as egotistically deranged lunatics. We’re big fans of James Blake, we wish him all the best and can’t wait for the album blah blah blah but c’mon guys just chill a bit yeah? I prefer to picture Blake beavering away in his bedroom studio or tearing it up, club-style, behind the decks; not in some mutual 69-position rimjob session, which is what this interview made me do. Stupid interview. Now this raucous slandering isn’t usually our style, so apologies. Maybe there should be less of it… or more.
Surgeon’s recent mix for Fabric was a gorgeous beast, brimming with musical opulence and quality and as a result, I’m giving this brief interview a prime-time slot. It’s just a short conversation with LowerCase in which he discusses his musical tastes and production techniques, but I’m sure you’ll find it interesting nonetheless. If I tell you that he says “pig farts” will you definitely watch it, yeah? He does. I’m serious.
SBTV never fails to bring the goods and yesterday they characteristically delivered, uploading a video of Crazy Titch discussing the forthcoming Crazy Times Vol. 2 mixtape and the current grime scene in general. It’s a phone interview — because, you know, he’s in prison — so the quality isn’t exactly amazing, but if you hold your earlobes like an incompetent talent show contestant, most of it’s audible. It runs just over 20 minutes and is definitely worth getting your ears around, especially for the nuggets of respect afforded to Dizzee ya get me? I’m hyped for this mixtape…

Here’s a video of Emalkay being interviewed at “And Here it is, The Return of Fall Massive” in Baltimore a couple of weeks back. He chats a bit about how the UK and US dubstep scenes differ and mentions a few producers he’s currently hot for, it’s all very civil.
The best part, however, is the fact that he’s from Birmingham and doesn’t even mention the Bullring once. I swear to God I’m telling the truth…
Here’s a recent interview of Benga by the folks over at Raw Juice Records. It’s just a standard bunch of questions, but it’s pretty interesting to see where he is in regard to producing, DJing and the whole dubstep scene right now. In 10 years, he reckons he’s going to be on a yacht banging some ladies whilst dubstep makes it large on the gay scene. Why the hell not? In 10 years I could be lying in a hammock in the middle of the jungle or suiting up to fly to the moon, it’s going to be 2020 for fuck’s sake.
Head over to Raw Juice to give them some love. They can’t spell ‘necklace’ but hey, they’re Norwegian. I can’t spell anything in Norwegian. I can’t even say anything in Norwegian. Maybe I should learn Norwegian.
