I can’t say I’ve been on the front line of this whole drumstep thing, the only other tune I’ve sat down and seriously listened to is Original Sin’s ‘Step On’, but what I can say is that this track is ridiculous; it’s major. Filthier than a Victorian sewer and darker than a Medieval dungeon, it’s got the same hectic vibe as a nasty DJ Hazard cut and the chest boxing punch of a crusty Bar 9 dub. In short, it makes me feel dirty and I like it.
Grooverider chats over the start of this clip but it’s a radio show so what do you expect? I’ll post up a better version as soon as I get my grubby paws on one. Look out for the stuttered kick rush — better descriptions are available — at 2:20, it’s a particularly sick highlight.
My legs went to jelly when I heard Grooverider drop ‘Overfiend’ at Tuesday Club last year, it was so insane I felt like Jesus was skanking right next to me. But, far from being a one-off brush with biblical bass, Original Sin has installed me with a vision of my next experience by dropping his first full length LP: Grow Your Wings (PLAYAZ008). It was technically released at the end of last year, but I’ve only just got my grubby fingers on a copy and, in all honesty, it’s nothing short of lethal.
There’s no shortage of punch-you-in-the-face anthems on offer, from the swiping growl of ‘Pimp Don’t Limp’ to the apocalyptic lows of ‘Without You’, you’ll get the full Original Sin experience. Surprisingly though, it’s not all foot to the floor, pedal to the metal aggression. Tracks such as ‘Kiss’, ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Your Love’ show there’s more than just evil running through Adam Tindall’s veins. At times, I even felt like I’d stumbled across an Atlantic Connection/DJ Hazard collaboration. Mmmm, dreamy and bloody at the same time.
Still, nothing mattered when I heard the album’s final tune. I was blown away — mainly by the air expelled from my sub — and I’ve decided that hearing ‘Step On’ on a huge system, would definitely match my ‘Overfiend’ epiphany. I’ve attached it below and it is absolutely brutal. It will rip out your spine and use it as a walking stick, just to spite you. Trust me.
