While half the world is out there doing important stuff like having a job, raising children or helping the homeless — big deal, right? — the rest of us are waiting in huddled groups for a new Burial release. Well, the time to rejoice is now because news surfaced earlier this week via Kode9 on Twitter that a release dubbed Kindred EP is imminent and set for both a vinyl and digital outing. Additionally, and more relevant to those of us with shallow pockets, it will also “def be less than 25 quid”, a comment referring to the inflated price of the recent Massive Attack remixes.

Anyway, my initial reading of the news was more exhilarating than the time Tommy Tucker told me Brucey Wammond had broken his arm playing hockey and therefore wasn’t able to beat me up after school, but it was nothing compared to this morning when I woke up to receive a clip of a tune from the EP titled ‘Ashtray Wasp’. Played last night on Hyperdub’s Rinse FM show, it’s only a snippet of what Scratcha DVA assures us is an 8 minute track, but it’s still exciting to hear. I’m sure there will be people telling me not to wet my pants just because it’s something by Burial, but seriously, have a listen and get back to me.

Update: Tracklist now confirmed. A1. Kindred; B1. Loner; B2. Ashtray Wasp.

People may walk past our window and scream “Scrooooge!” while shaking their fists, but we can be generous souls here at Box Musique and to prove it we’re giving away 2 pairs of tickets to Triangle in London on December 2nd. Of course, in reality, it’s the guys over at Triangle who are giving away the tickets and we are merely facilitating such generosity, so don’t give us all the credit…but do give us some.

In terms of the actual event, Hyperdub’s Ossie is headlining proceedings with his blissful brand of organically-inspired house ready to get you moving like a centipede on a trampoline or possibly even a millipede on a trampoline. Alongside him is another purveyor of chilled yet optimistic vibes in Hackman, Take Record’s James Fox and the Triangle resident 2-22′s is the final piece of the beautiful puzzle. Basically, if you’ve got a place in your heart for the deep and groovy, then this is your thing. Or maybe I should change “thing” to “ting” to sound a bit cooler…and maybe not use the word groovy, ever.

How to Enter (In Bold to Save Scanning Time)
To enter all you’ve got to do is head over to that Twitter website and tweet a link to this post with the hashtag #wintriangle included before November 30th and then I’ll sift through all [4] of the entries and pick out one at random. If you’re interested in our ‘random’ method, last time we ran a comp Oldsy wrote everyone’s name on a grape and threw a bowl at me…I caught one in my mouth and BOOM. Winner. We’ll do something similar this time, maybe with knives and a spinning wheel. Why are you still reading this? Enter the damn thing!

Triangle is at the City Arts & Music Project in London on December 2nd. Head over to the event page on Facebook for more info. Flyer after the jump.

Uploaded to his Soundcloud account earlier today, this Synkro remix of The XX’s ‘Night Time’ is an incredible specimen of beautifully nocturnal garage vibes. Deeper than James Earl Jones’ voice, it conjures images of fluorescent light trails and rain prismatically glistening under city illuminations. But that’s just me. For you it may evoke laughing clowns spinning disembodied on a swirling multi-coloured hypnotic background. Still, despite your deep-seated and bizarrely triggered childhood fears, I absolutely love it.

Last year saw the release of the first Dub Police My Style mix from Caspa and now the second installment is imminent, courtesy of D1. Due for release on October 31st, it’s an energetic exploration of a potent selection of tunes from the likes of Caspa, Matty G, Subscape, The Others, Redlight and D1 himself. Stick this on and you’ll be bouncing around like Rick James on top of broken washing machine or, I suppose, like a person dancing.

In terms of choice pickings, the ‘Ongie Bongie’ VIP mix makes me want to go as mental as the name suggests and Caspa’s ‘Minimal Movements’ is pretty catchy, even with the creepy, accented utterance of “minimal, minimal” occasionally popping up like a brain-damaged mole. Which, I guess, is understandable because people do frequently hit them on the head with plastic hammers…sick bunnies.

The tracklist lies after the jump and below is the closing tune of the mix, Subscape’s ‘Turn Me On’. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

This one actually came out at the end of March but you could easily mistake it for a deep ’90s tune where shoulder pads ruled the city and pirates sailed the airwaves. Hints of rave meet garagesque vocals courtesy of Shola Ama and J2K and it makes me regret being born so late in the 80s…not that I wish I had any control over it, that would just be weird. It’s early anyway and this has woken me up with a smile on my face so I’ll wish you a happy St. George’s Day before I deteriorate into my usual bitter self.

The recent Thom Yorke, Burial and Four Tet collaboration didn’t quite go down as well as expected and rather than bask in a wave of praise, it languished in an uncertain pool of hmmm. Thankfully, Monday sees the release of the first Burial solo material in four years and having been partially played on Benji B’s Radio One show last night, I can confirm that it is pretty damn good. Entitled Street Halo, the three track EP sounds a lot less cluttered than the likes of ‘Mirrors’ and rumoured as a precursor to Burial’s next album, is rather exciting to behold. Weightless yet epic, it’s exactly the kind of lo-fi genius we’ve come to expect from the secretive South London producer. Buy it? Buy it.

Soup Kitchen have been promoting ridiculous events in Sheffield for quite a while now, probably even longer than you’ve been pretending to like dubstep and garage so that kind-of-hot girl you sort of know might notice you and think you’re cool. Just recently, for example, they brought Dark Sky and xxxy to the original home of decent spoons and I don’t need to tell you how happy that made me (hint: very).

Continuing the theme of astute bookings, next week sees an event which is such a banger I saw the poster and had to double-take like a cartoon cat. I then walked around the block — or would have if this was America — and had another look just to make sure it was real. With a line-up comprising Joy Orbison, Pariah, Midland, Lil’ Silva as well as the inevitable Soup and Barry residents, it’s going to be more exciting than the time you and your best friend Ronnie found that dirty magazine in the woods. Basically I reckon you should snag a ticket pretty sharpish because come next Friday (March 25th) you won’t want to be standing out in the cold whilst everyone else is inside loving it like homeless men at a real soup kitchen…on Christmas Day.

Tickets are £10 and in terms of the venue, it’s a secret…until 24 hours before the event at which point it will be announced on Facebook. Talking of Facebook, head over to the event page for more info. See you there.

Eleven Tigers’ Clouds Are Mountains was a complex and imposing album that I felt was largely slept on when it came out earlier this year. Fortunately, Dark Sky also saw the beauty in the Lithuanian producer’s epic compositions and have gone one step further than I ever would (or could), forging this remix of ‘Stableface’. Less concerned with lofty atmospherics, the remix has more of a garage-banger-in-a-black-hole feel to it, with the bassline punching holes in the sky and vocal snippets shifting pitch to complement the percussion. It’s a very different track but is brilliant in its own right. What else can I say? Dark Sky are killing it at the moment.

Eleven Tigers – Stable Face (DS Remix) Forthcoming Soul Motive Records by Dark Sky

I’ve also attached the original because it’s something you should hear. Eleven Tigers’ music has been described as “what happens after Burial” and I don’t really know what that means, but it sure sounds interesting. Just imagine you’re stuck in a power station cooling tower after the rest of the world has been decimated by an apocalyptic disease, that’ll get you in the mood.

As part of the Mixcloud Curators series, Fabric DJ Mackaveli has compiled a formidable hour long chronicle comprising tunes from the likes of Wookie, Dop, The Knife and more. At times relaxed, at others funkier than your Grandma in an MC hammer video, this has a little bit for everyone. The Mosca remix of Tempa T’s ‘Next Hype’ is particularly mad and I’ve also been enjoying Mount Kimbie’s take on Foals’ ‘Spanish Sahara’.
