And the 2011 award for “Track Which Oldsy Should Have Posted” goes to…this one. Why? Because he loves Thundercat, Austin Peralta and Flying Lotus and while I am a fan of all three, I am no expert. The track in question is ‘$200 TB’, a tune which only features on the Japanese import version of Thundercat’s album The Golden Age of Apocalypse and was posted, for the benefit of everyone not in Japan, on Soundcloud today. Produced by Flying Lotus and featuring Austin Peralta, it’s a rather beguiling affair and the silky bass makes me believe I could walk into a bar, click my fingers provocatively and have all the ladies swooning like some kind of jazzy George Clooney. Actually, I can kind of do that already, just without the finger clicking…and the women…and the going to a bar bit.

We heard sneak peeks of it on Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 show a couple of weeks back. Now it’s here in that lovely, easy-to-use mp3 format. ‘For Love I Come’ comes straight from the long-awaited Thundercat LP Golden Age of Apocalypse, due out sometime soon I guess.

Flying Lotus (who produced the album) has been feeding the hype-fire like a real pro on his Twitter. From the sounds of this track though, it’s all going to pay off… for everyone involved. Those guys will hopefully earn some tasty bones while we are treated to an album full off space junkie-friendly, low end-driven, float-away beats.

Brainfeeder will release Golden Age of Apocalypse maybe in the summer, maybe in the Autumn.

In all fairness the title of this post probably lead you to believe that I was going to be talking straight music. So when it turns out that Shaun Bloodworth is actually a photographer and ‘Underground’ is an exhibition of his work if you are indeed slightly taken aback I apologise. Got to keep you on your toes.

We went along to the opening party last night and were treated to free beer, DJ sets from Mary Anne Hobbs and Grievous Angel and, above all, excellent photography. Shaun has been documenting the electronic bass music scene since 2005, taking in the rise of Dubstep etc. over here with Rinse and that before crossing the Atlantic and getting in on the LA beat action. ‘Underground’ features, among others: Skream, Benga, Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, Roska, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ramadanman and there’s a sweet shot of some plugs too. If you want to sample the goods, this Bleep blog post will sort you out.

‘Underground’ will be running at Bank Street Arts in Sheffield city centre for another week or so. Shaun and the crew also want to take this exhibition down to London (and beyond) so get involved, spread the love. More and info and prints to buy can be found on the official site. The video below is a trailer for a little film put together for Sonar last year, you can watch the whole thing here.

There’s also the usual quality selections, including an Erykah Badu DJ mix and some Raphael Saadiq session material. Although, in honest reflection David aka Jheri Kurl aka White Men Can’t Run aka The O.G.G. doesn’t amble about with the same musical blinkers strapped to his tiny head that I do. Like a tired old pit pony, I just want to lie down!

Taylor McFerrin is Bobby McFerrin’s son so if ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ is most certainly your bag then great because this is completely different.

Jazz is cool (again). There’s no escaping it. It’s coming back and it’s going to swallow you whole. Then poop you out with a whole new perspective on life, perhaps. New from Brainfeeder comes this debut from Austin Peralta. Peralta you say? Yeah he’s the son of skateboard legend Stacy Peralta but who cares.

Endless Planets features collaboration with Strangeloop throughout and finishes with an epic track featuring The Cinematic Orchestra. I’m still getting my head round the thing really; it’s a good time and the aforementioned ‘Algiers’ is certainly standing out right now. I could say a review will follow but it probably won’t. It’s jazz man, subjective to the last so let it take you wherever you want to go.

“This is a step in direction of where I want Brainfeeder to go. True musicianship as well as some interesting electronics” – Flying Lotus

There appears to be no legitimate streams or samples going on but again, who cares. The tracklist might excite you? Jump in.

1. Introduction: The Lotus Flower
2. Capricornus
3. The Underwater Mountain Odyssey
4. Ode To Love
5. Interlude
6. Algiers
7. Epilogue: Renaissance Bubbles

I woke up this morning greeted by the tracklist for Kode9 and The Spaceape’s follow-up to 2006′s seminal Memories of the Future and knowing that you’re all as geeky and obsessed with detail as I am, I vowed to post it with my usual medicated eagerness. Comprising 12 tracks, the only tune we’ve heard before is record namesake ‘Black Sun’ although its appearance here is in ‘Partial Eclipse Mix’ form…which you’ll probably have to listen to through a pinhole camera. Elsewhere there seems to be heavy collaboration from Cha Cha and more excitingly, the appearance of Flying Lotus on the record’s closing track, ‘Kryon’. There’s not really much else to say apart from the fact that ‘Bullet Against Bone’ sounds brutal and when I get the release, I’ll probably skip straight to it and listen cross-legged like a school girl at story time. 2011′s going to be exciting, isn’t it?

Black Sun is slated to drop on Hyperdub this April and just because you’ve been a good kid and read the whole post, I’ve attached a track from Memories of the Future. Wait, but where’s the tracklist? After the GD jump sunshine.

Note: A little while after I posted this Hyperdub announced that this isn’t the final tracklist on Twitter. I’ll keep you updated!

Today Flying Lotus of Cosmogramma infamy posted on Twitter saying that ‘Madlib called and said we should start getting to work on our album’. Madlib, a rapper and producer most notably known for his numerous collaborations, would surely prove to be an interesting complement to the complex and artistic work of Flying Lotus. Of course, who knows if there is any truth in this or whether FL is just taking the piss out of people like me and making me look like a right fool dammit! Still, it’s a curious prospect right?

Also, here’s a video from the Warp site entitled Inside the Codex: the Art of Cosmogramma. It’s short and a little pretentious, but you may as well watch it…you’d only spend the time touching yourself and eating Doritos anyway. The artist seems to live/work in a room reminiscent of some slow wizard’s watchtower from Merlin or another terrible fantasy show starring Mackenzie Crook as a birdman. The art is pretty sick though.
