Henry Homesweet’s Essential Chip

Henry Homesweet’s Essential Chip 04 August 2010
Author: David

For some people chiptunes are the aural equivalent of being chainsawed in half, they just can’t handle the awesome lo-bit vibes. For others — myself included — they’re sick. I was brought up on the sound of my Gameboy and Megadrive beeping out dope little tunes and listening to chip music is as exhilarating as listening to the soundtrack from Street Fighter, Toejam and Earl or James Pond II: Codename Robocod (classic). This mix by Henry Homesweet is a comprehensive collection of some of the sickest modern chip available and it’s pure madness. Get your head out of the yoghurt pot and bang it against your Amiga instead!

Doctor P’s Sweet Shop (CR004)

Doctor P’s Sweet Shop (CR004) 02 January 2010
Author: David

Doctor P — the guy who owns Circus Records along with Flux Pavilion — is a rare specimen. He’s a dubstep producer who makes what some people (not me, I hasten to add) like to call “filth step” and somehow actually manages to pay a little attention to melodies and what’s cracking off in the higher frequencies. ‘Sweet Shop’ from CR004, is a delectable example of this and his beautiful inclusion of ’90s keys alongside some seriously gung-ho bass is a recipe for success, rather like milk and cookies or blow and job. It begins on a deliciously ravey note and progresses into some serious sub killin’ complemented by a slice of crushed up 8-bit goodness. You’ll feel like you’ve been double-teamed by Bowser and Mega Man.

It makes me want to go out and binge on fruit pastilles until my family has to stage an intervention and ban me from everything sweet bar fruit. I wonder if I can get a sugary high off those free mint imperials in Indian restaurants? Hmmm. Listen below!

Crack at Christmas

Crack at Christmas 25 December 2009
Author: David

This one comes via the beautiful people over at Disturbed Beats and reminds me why I am in love with DJ Zinc’s Crack House mix series. Packed full of absolute bangers, just like its predecessors, this epic includes tracks from Zinc himself, 8-bit, Major Lazer, Vato Gonzalez, Diplo, Geeneus and of whole damn sack of others. The best drop is just over 16 minutes in, it’ll make your baubles jingle…

I guess this is where I’d usually say I’ve posted the track listing after the jump, but I can’t find it anywhere; it’s hidden! If you head over to the Soundcloud page though, you can gather some clues from the comments there.
