Pangaea EP (HES010) Delivers
With a sporadic and fairly minimal output, Pangaea is a producer that tends to pass under the radar like a spectral dolphin. Vaguely similar to the likes of Untold, Shackleton and Joe, his tunes are driven by sheer force of atmosphere and convey a sense of hypnotic eccentricity. Pangaea EP, his latest release, is a solid and captivating descent into a world of enigmatic vibe and mellifluous bass, encircling you with a wall of cinematic intensity.
The detuned peaks of ‘Dead Living’, the percussive force of ’5-HTP’ and the silky rhythm of ‘Why’ mark the highlights of this largely flawless release. The only weak link comes in the form of the quirky spoken sample on ‘Neurons’, which doesn’t quite land and seems to interrupt the hazy flow of proceedings. Listen to this in a dark room and you’ll fall into a dreamy coma…in a good way, of course.
