Netsky, Whatsky and RDR001
I haven’t been able to turn around for the last 6 months without someone trying to cram a sizeable chunk of Netsky down my throat and yes, whilst I admit he’s rather inspirational, he’s not infallible. His latest release, for example, is 50% genius, 50% “what the fuck?” RDR001 is the first release on Murdock’s new drum & bass imprint, Radar Records, and it’s a disappointingly double-edged sword.
A-side ‘Your Way’ is the usual strain of infectious liquid, with sweetly processed strings and a catchy vocal hook. Job done, excellent. ‘Daydreaming’, however, is a relentlessly looping puddle of shit. It’s about as pleasurable as a fire alarm in a prison cell and feels like Van Gogh and Mike Tyson tag-teaming your ears whilst Sir Killalot approaches from behind. Jesus, somebody must like this, who the hell decided it was good enough to release? Radar had better have some decent things lined up otherwise it’ll sink faster than…well, Sir Killalot.
Anyway, download ‘Daydreaming’ below and decide for yourself. I would advise that you spend your money on something else by Netsky or just purchase ‘Your Way’ on its own when it sees a digital release.
I think Netsky’s ‘Memory Lane’ from the Sick Music Vol. 2 Sampler is massive by the way…just sayin’.
