It goes without saying that Fabric are experts at attracting the biggest and best names to craft excellent mixes for them, we need only look back a month to recall DJ Yoda's masterfully forged compilation of prime cuts for Fabriclive.39. This instalment was to be no different and originally fell at the feet of Parisian electro duo Justice, but after their effort was deemed unworthy, the baton was passed on to Dutch darkstep outfit Noisia, the sinister faces of drum & bass. They, of course, set to work in what I can only imagine to be some sort of poorly lit underground dungeon/studio and concocted a filthy mix comprising largely their own tunes but punctuated with some collaborations and breaks cuts from other notably twisted producers. Not a massacistic ballet performance but the first EP from Aussie rockers Pivot. The title 'In The Blood' may lead you to believe it's all death metal and that but far from my friend, far from. Not only do you get the horrendously addictive 'Didn't I Furious' along with the title track, there's also remixes of 'In The Blood' and 'Sweet Memory' by Rustie and Clark respectively. I just had a gander at the video for Johnny Truant's new song, 'Death Rides', and fuck me, the track is epic. Heavy as a lead monster truck and heinous as anything, it's sick stuff, I was up out of my chair punching clowns and babies within seconds. We don't have to wait very long for its release either thanks to the fact that the album from which it originates, No Tears for the Creatures, is due for release on United By Fate on June 2, so get your fingers out of your ears and grab a copy. Oh my God, Scarlett Johansson may be a decent actress but she's absolutely awful at singing. Seriously, she can't hold a note at all. I just watched the video for her song 'Falling Down' and at times I thought she was acting like she was dehydrated or had tonsillitis or something. Who the hell agrees to produce and release stuff like this? They know she's terrible, they've added reverb to her voice in order to try and mask how retarded she sounds, but it doesn't work. I bet she reckons her sound is edgy and new, well I'm edgy...or at least my knife is and I've just bought a plane ticket to LA and an action man stealth suit, it has fake padded muscles. Legendary director and all-round badass Martin Scorsese has unfortunately had to pull out of directing the upcoming Bob Marley biopic due to 'scheduling conflicts'. Thankfully however, instead of Uwe Boll stepping in to make a hash of the whole project (best joke ever?), Jonathan Demme has been assigned to take Marty's place. If you're clueless and have already reached for IMDB then shame on you because Demme directed such classics as The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia and The Manchurian Candidate. He also recently directed Neil Young: Heart of Gold, which I haven't seen but critics seemed to taken a shine to, so he's obviously pretty good at this legend/music/movie crossover malarkey. Would you like to know how bored I am? Bored enough to acknowledge the fact that Pendulum are going on tour at the end of this year. Seriously, the less I hear about Pendulum the better.
