dBridge – Love Hotel & Dim Light (EXIT022)
Digitally empyrean and beautifully vaporous, the music of dBridge sounds like somebody jammed a drum machine down a drainpipe in an Eastern European red light district circa 2063. EXIT022, White’s eighth release on his own Exit imprint, follows this surreal model, comprising a duo of moody tunes in ‘Love Hotel’ and ‘Dim Light’. The first oscillates between a precarious line of calm and menace, lulling with canorous pads and frequently dropping into a threatening snarl. The latter, meanwhile, is driven by a detuned hook and swathes of background noise. Imagine looking through the end of telescope after being blind-folded and dropped in the middle of the ocean at midnight…that’s the kind of effect you should expect.
dBridge is a breath of fresh air and EXIT022 is, once again, a characteristically unique and intriguing release which should be played in a dark room with a bottle of Jack Daniels and a strobe light. Maybe…
