Magnetic Sideways Pull - Drew Pilgram (Album Review)

Magnetic Sideways Pull - Drew PilgramMagnetic Sideways Pull is the debut album from singer/songwriter/producer Drew Pilgram. I got my hands on a copy as I was walking down Oxford Street, London because someone (it could have been Drew herself) thrust it into my hands from behind. I'm not fond of acoustic rock or 'Alternative/Acoustic/Folk' as it is called on her Myspace because I always deem it too simple and boring and end up getting distracted by lint or that clock in the corner of the computer screen as I'm listening. Let's see what others had to say about the album before any assumptions are made unjustifiably...

"From start to finish, every track is beautiful, thought provoking and evokes emotion."
Independent Clauses Magazine

"Drew has delivered one of the best debut albums I've heard for a very long time. Beautifully written, produced and with a gorgeous heart-felt vocal delivery; it'll probably be the most accomplished album you'll hear all year. Stunning."
Ben Mynott - Fluid Nation/ Big Chill

"She’s got soul, she writes incredible songs and her backing band is anything but typical. Listen to the lyrics and listen to the harmonies. And listen a second time. You may have missed something."
Radio Mike/ Fevered Brain Radio Network

Well well well, interesting stuff there. Whereas I find this album rather same old sausage there are plenty of people who have listened to it and thought the opposite. It's not a bad album if you like that kind of thing, a girl told me so. Drew Pilgram only has 1401 friends on Myspace so, unless the thousands of her fans hate Myspace/don't understand how a keyboard works/haven't heard of the internet, we can assume that she is not (yet) very popular. All I will say is she deserves to be up there in the charts far more than KT Tunstall does. 'Nuff said.

4/10
